Great Public Schools

Every child and every family should have access to a great neighborhood school. Colorado education should be about kids, not about profit. We have a responsibility to make every school as great and strong as it can possibly be, for all students. Charters fill an important role in Colorado, and we must do the work to provide great neighborhood schools, so that a real choice exists for families.

Public money belongs in public schools. Colorado has for thirty years supported very liberal and vague homeschooling, enrichment, and charter or contract schools operations. We have seen some positive achievement for students from this….. Though, for the most part, typically over the last ten years, we’ve seen rogue actors exploiting those rules and laws to line their own pockets. Some are in-state, others have come from out-of-state. They take millions of dollars from public school money and use it to either enrich themselves or to infuse their religious beliefs into our schools. The state legislature is working to make clear guidelines and guardrails for this, which I support. Further study, analysis, and intentional decision making MUST be the next steps from the State Board of Education, the Department of Education, and the legislature. I believe we can all work together to maximize, make fair, and ensure a thorough, quality, well-rounded public education for every child.
